Check your masks


So having uploaded this game to itch, I noticed the performance was pretty awful. I assumed it was something to do with the area / collisions of each of the enemies, and it turns out there were 50000 collision pairs at any one time in a room! This was caused by the mask on the physics layer for each individual tile in the tile set to also be colliding with the ones next to it! on top of that, the enemy detection area was also detecting the tiles.

Having set the appropriate mask values, the performance is better.
